LIGHT THERAPY
WHAT IS LIGHT THERAPY?
Laser/light therapy is a non-invasive procedure that uses light energy to repair and regenerate damaged skin. Different spectrums of light can be used to treat separate skin conditions.
BLUE LIGHT THERAPY
Blue light therapy is most commonly used to treat sun damage and premalignant or malignant skin cancer growths. It can actually be used to prevent skin cancer and remove both precancerous skin lesions and cancerous skin lesions that haven’t spread to other areas of the body (or metastasized).
Blue light therapy can also treat other types of skin disorders. It can be used to improve skin texture and reduce sebaceous hyperplasia, or enlarged oil glands. It can help with removing sun spots, acne, and even scars that were originally caused by acne.
RED LIGHT THERAPY
Red light therapy, which is also known by the less-catchy names of photobiomodulation and low-level laser therapy (LLLT), releases light waves in the red and infrared spectrum.
Unlike ultraviolet rays from the sun which damage the DNA of skin cells, the spectrums of light used in light therapy booths are non-damaging. That means there’s no tanning or burning when you’re exposed to red light. Its effects happen deep inside at the cellular level.
Sit or stand a few inches away from a panel of special red lights for a few minutes and their wavelengths reportedly alter the way your cells produce energy and antioxidants. In turn, this improved efficiency may help heal bones, nerves, skin, tendons, and ligaments, while lessening pain.
